Our Airport: 73F
Wings for Christ International Flight Academy owns and operates a beautiful grass public airport about eight miles northeast of Waco, Texas. The official airport name is 73F and is the only public grass strip in the area.
Windy springtime weather and the hot and humid summers make Central Texas an ideal climate for teaching mission pilot techniques. The challenging conditions make better, and therefore safer, pilots. Owning our own airport also helps keep our expenses lower, which meets a strategic value of any mission organization.
We love to have visitors come get some turf time and our field is exceptional. Originally part of Connally Air Force Base, the runway was built with asphalt, but after the base closed, nature took over and many years later natural grasses covered the paved areas. Now with several inches of great sod over the top of an asphalt base, the runway has a wonderful crown, allowing water to run off quickly. We can fly after heavy rains within a few hours, rather than waiting days like at other grass strips.
73F is within TSTC Airport’s Class D airspace, so be sure to contact them before attempting a landing here. Their controllers are always very friendly and helpful and do a great job integrating our traffic into the airspace. You never know what you will see flying nearby out of TSTC, but it is certainly a thrill to share airspace with a C5 Galaxy!
